The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) was established on 1 July 2019. Prior to this the functions of the Agency were delivered by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). Being employed improves the health, living standards and the social and emotional well-being of individuals, families and communities. Employment not only brings financial independence and choice, it also contributes to self-esteem. We develop and manage Indigenous employment policy and programmes. We also provide supplementary assistance to a variety of state, territory and Commonwealth programmes. Our programmes address the employment needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and employers and industry.
