National Ice Taskforce

The National Ice Taskforce has spent the last eight weeks conducting consultations across the country.

Taskforce members Mr Ken Lay, Dr Sally McCarthy and Professor Richard Murray have heard first-hand from people dealing with the impacts of ice, with particular focus on regional Australia.

More than 1300 written submissions have been received by the Department and targeted community consultations occurred in seven locations across  Australia.

Contributions from experts in drug treatment, health care, education, research and law enforcement have helped the Taskforce better understand the drug and how it’s causing harm.

The strong message was that ice is hurting individuals, families, communities and frontline staff.

There is a need for better access to treatment, coordination of services and giving communities the tools to respond on a local level.

The Taskforce  is preparing an interim report that will be presented to the Prime Minister for consideration.
