His Excellency Mr Andrzej Duda, President of the Republic of Poland inspects Australia’s Federation Guard

On 17 August the President of Poland, His Excellency Mr Andrzej Duda and Mrs Agata Kornhauser-Duda were welcomed to Australia.

The visit came at an important time in Poland’s history – with 2018 marking 100 years since the country regained independence.

With more than 180,000 people in Australia with Polish ancestry, the visit provided an opportunity for the President to celebrate the contributions of the Polish Australian community, attending several community events in Melbourne and Sydney.

In Canberra, President Duda met with Prime Minister Turnbull to discuss areas of mutual interest, including progress on an Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement and bilateral trade links.

President Duda also received a Ceremonial Welcome at Government House and laid a wreath at the Australian War Memorial.

President Duda and Mrs Kornhauser-Duda visited Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney during their visit.
