A State Memorial Service for the Honourable Peter Keaston Reith AM will take place at 1.00pm on Thursday 17 November 2022 at Saint Andrew’s Church, 228 New Street, Brighton, Victoria.
Mr Reith was the Minister for Defence (2001), Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business (1998 to 2001), Minister for Workplace Relations and Small Business (1997 to 1998), Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service (1996 to 1997) and the Minister for Industrial Relations (1996 to 1997).
Mr Reith was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for significant service to the Parliament of Australia, and to the community of Victoria.
As a mark of mourning and respect, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast all day on Thursday 17 November 2022 in the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria only from all buildings and establishments occupied by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies. Other organisations are welcome to participate.
- When flying the Australian National Flag with other flags, all flags in the set should be flown at half-mast.
- If a set of flags includes the flags of other nations, it would be appropriate to seek permission from the diplomatic representatives of that nation to half-mast their flag.
- An acceptable half-mast position would be when the top of the flag is a third of the distance down from the top of the flagpole.
- Information on flag protocol is available on the Department's website.
