The Northern Territory Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet advises that a State Memorial for Mr Elliot McAdam AM will take place at 10am on Thursday, 12 September 2024 at the TIO Traeger Park Oval, Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
Mr McAdam was a former Northern Territory Minister who was a fervent advocate for his community and the region of Barkly. He was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in 2001 as the Member for Barkly. His portfolio extended to include Local Government and Housing, Central Australia, Corporate and Information Services and Communications. He was passionate in creating local government and housing reform for the Northern Territory.
In 2015, Mr McAdam was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community of Barkly, and to the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory.
Details regarding the service and livestreaming can be found on the Barkly Regional Council website.
As a mark of mourning and respect, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast all day on Thursday, 12 September 2024 in the Northern Territory only from all buildings and establishments occupied by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies. Other organisations are welcome to participate.
- When flying the Australian National Flag with other flags, all flags in the set should be flown at half-mast.
- If a set of flags includes the flags of other nations, it would be appropriate to seek permission from the diplomatic representatives of that nation to half-mast their flag.
- An acceptable half-mast position would be when the top of the flag is a third of the distance down from the top of the flagpole.
- Information on flag protocol is available on the Department's website.
Your assistance is appreciated.
