Senior Executive Service

Senior managers in PM&C provide high quality strategic leadership which is essential to creating an effective and cohesive Department.

The role of the Senior Executive Services (SES) is to provide high quality leadership that contributes to an improved APS.

SES leaders at PM&C are responsible for active leadership, decision-making and working collaboratively across the whole of Government. SES leaders represent the Department across a variety of roles that extend beyond day-to-day priorities. This includes Champion roles, working groups, taskforces or events.

SES leaders build capability through encouraging a culture of high performance. They deliver results for Government and the Australian people by drawing on the diversity of our people’s expertise and backgrounds.

As an SES leader in PM&C, you will improve outcomes by developing high quality policy design, advice and services. You will promote and model the APS Values, Employment Principles and APS Code of Conduct.

The classification of SES roles is based on the APS Work Level Standards (WLS). The WLS is an APS-wide tool for assigning and assessing the classification of roles. SES roles within PM&C are classified as SES Band 1, SES Band 2 or SES Band 3.

The PM&C SES Performance Model outlines expected behaviours for each SES classification. These behaviours are categorised under four key qualities:

  • Leading
  • Collaborating
  • Achieving
  • Problem solving.

Consideration of the PM&C SES Performance model and WLS will help you align your skills, knowledge and experience.

PM&C offers a flexible, safe and inclusive workplace with competitive employment conditions. SES employment conditions are set out in individual employment determinations under subsection 24(1) of the Public Service Act 1999.
