Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, The Honourable James Marape MP, shakes hands with the Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Scott Morrison MP.

Last month, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, the Honourable James Marape MP and Mrs Rachael Marape were welcomed to Australia.

Prime Minister Marape was the first Guest-of-Government visitor to Australia since the federal election earlier this year.

In Canberra, Prime Minister Marape received a Ceremonial Welcome at Parliament House and held discussions with Prime Minister Morrison and other ministers – in which they agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship by progressing a new Comprehensive Strategic and Economic Partnership.

Prime Minister Marape met with the Governor-General, HE General the Hon David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) and laid a wreath at the Australian War Memorial.

Prime Minister Marape and Mrs Marape also visited Perth, Karratha and Sydney during their visit, including attending a rugby game at Shark Park with Prime Minister Morrison.
