Tech Talk Professor Fiona Stanley with Assistant Minister Angus Taylor. #datatechtalk

Understanding and better utilising data can improve policy, design more effective programs and deliver better services for everyone. The growth in data generation is enabling new and exciting business models, services and insights.

For example, in the health sector, administrative data enables governments and researchers to identify risk factors and preventative characteristics to social, health or education problems, and measure the cost effectiveness of interventions and services for the entire population.

To showcase the latest initiatives that use data to deliver public benefits, we are presenting a series of tech-talks with prominent data researchers and users.

The first tech-talk features renowned epidemiologist Professor Fiona Stanley AC speaking with Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation Angus Taylor MP. Professor Stanley is a passionate advocate for better use of routinely collected data and talks about her work, including the Developmental Pathways Project.

Following the first tech-talk, the Assistant Minister will chat live on Facebook with Professor Louisa Jorm from the UNSW Centre for Big Data in Health Research, on Wednesday 02 August 2017 at 11am.
