The Australian Government has announced a $2.1 billion (over 6 years from 2022-23) Budget package focusing on women’s safety, economic security and, health and wellbeing.
Gender equality is the foundation for a safe, healthy, and cohesive community and a strong, productive and prosperous economy. Advancing equality and instilling respect are priorities that are vital to Australia’s economic and social recovery from COVID-19.
The 2022-23 Women’s Budget Statement provides $2.1 billion to improve women’s safety, women’s economic security, and women and girl’s health and wellbeing.
The Government is committed to improving gender equality for women and girls in Australia and is continuing to focus efforts on three key areas by investing:
$1.3 billion in women’s safety (over 6 years from 2021-22) to create an Australia that is free from violence against women and children, and where women are safe and respected by focusing on the four pillars of prevention, early intervention, response and recovery.
$482 million in Women’s Economic Security (over 6 years from 2021-22) to provide greater choice and flexibility to improve women’s workforce participation increase their earnings and progress their careers.
$330.6 million in Women’s Health and Wellbeing (over 4 years from 2022-23) to drive better outcomes for women and girls across maternal, sexual and reproductive health, chronic disease, metal health and the health impacts of violence against women and girls.
The Women’s Budget Statement builds on the $3.4 billion investment made last year, as well as existing work including the National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children 2010-22 (the National Plan) and the 2018 and 2020 Women’s Economic Security Statements.
