Congratulations to the recipients in the Australia Day 2024 Honours List, who were announced today by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd).

The achievements of 1042 Australians across community service, science and research, industry, sport, the arts and more, were recognised in the Honours list, which includes:

  • 739 recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia
  • 20 recipients of awards in the Military Division of the Order of Australia
  • 224 Meritorious awards
  • 59 Distinguished and Conspicuous awards

'Recipients have made a difference and had an impact at the local, national and/or international level. Individually, they are inspiring and collectively they speak to the strength of our communities,” the Governor-General said.

'Recipients come from all parts of the country. They have served and had an impact in just about every field you can imagine; their stories and backgrounds are diverse. We value their service, thank them for their hard work and selflessness and, today, celebrate them.'

The Order of Australia and the meritorious awards recognise individuals for their distinguished service. Those recognised have consistently performed to the highest standards and made major contributions to the Australia community and to humanity at large.

'To all Australians: our honours system belongs to all of us and the Order of Australia must reflect who we are. We can all nominate someone we admire and respect for recognition. Please consider doing so,' the Governor-General said.

Everyone recognised has something in common – someone took the time to nominate them. No matter how valuable someone’s contribution is, they can’t be recognised unless they are nominated.

Don’t leave it to someone else – you can make a difference today by nominating an outstanding person you know today at Nominate someone for an award.
