Australian Bravery Decorations

On 14 August 2024, the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, announced 41 Australian Bravery Decorations in recognition of the courageous acts of 46 people.

'Australian Bravery Decorations honour those Australians who put themselves in danger to protect the lives or property of others. Recipients come from different parts of our country and diverse backgrounds. They are connected by their selfless, courageous, resilient and determined response in extraordinary circumstances,' the Governor-General said.

'Each is inspiring. I am delighted that these exceptional people will forever know they have earned the gratitude of every Australian.'

Decorations awarded include:

  • 6 Bravery Medals for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances
  • 33 Commendations for Brave Conduct for acts of bravery that are considered worthy of recognition
  • 2 Group Bravery Citations (awarded to 6 people) for collective acts of bravery by groups of persons in extraordinary circumstances that are considered worthy of recognition. An additional 2 people have also been added to previously announced awards.

A list of the recipients is available on the Governor-General's website and recipients who have agreed to be identified can be searched for using the Australian Honours database.
