A boost in national symbols resources

The Australian Government has released new and updated educational resources to strengthen knowledge of Australia’s national symbols.

Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, the Hon Patrick Gorman MP, launched the resources on 3 September 2022 which have been developed to engage the public in learning about Australia’s cultural life and Indigenous history.

The new resources include an interactive educational website, ‘Unlocking Our Stories: Australia’s Symbols’, which hosts student worksheets, interactive games, teacher lesson guides, and at-home parent and caregiver guides. The resources, aimed at school children from years 3-8, also include updated Australian Flags and Australian Symbols booklets and 8 educational posters.

The resources reflect the recent change to the Australian National Anthem, which was made to reflect a spirit of unity and Australia’s long Indigenous and multicultural history.

They contribute to the Australian Government’s broader work to reignite community interest, engagement and appreciation of national symbols and ensure they reflect our diverse history and what is unique about our country, people and culture.
