Gender Balance on Australian Government Boards 2023-2024 Annual Report

Each year, the Office for Women reports annually on the representation of women on Australian Government Boards.

Record results have been achieved in 2023-24. Data is presented at Australian Government, portfolio, and individual board levels, and performance is measured against 2 key targets:

  • Target 1 requires women to hold 50% of all Australian Government board positions. This has been achieved for the third consecutive year, at a record high of 54.4%
  • Target 2 requires women to hold at least 40% of positions on Australian Government boards at the individual board level.

The 2023-24 Annual Report also provides baseline data for 2 new targets:

  • Target 3 requires women to hold 50% of Australian Government board positions at the portfolio level.
  • Target 4 requires women to hold 50% of Chair and Deputy Chair positions on Australian Government boards at the portfolio level.

Record results have been achieved in 2023-24. As of 30 June 2024, women held 54.4% of all positions, and 45.3% of Chair and Deputy Chair positions on Australian Government boards. At the individual board level, 78.4% have achieved representation of 40% or above.
