Public Service Medal, valuing excellence in every role, at any level, in all geographical locations.

Do you know a public servant who has given outstanding service for the public, their clients or their team? Nominate them for a Public Service Medal (PSM).

The PSM recognises excellence across the public service and is awarded twice a year by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia. Successful nominations will be awarded in the Australia Day 2026 Honours List.

Every Australian public servant is eligible for the PSM, no matter where in Australia they are based nor their role or level. Recipients should reflect the breadth and diversity of the Australian Public Service (APS).

The award is given for excellent and outstanding service, which can be shown through:

  • service excellence to the public, or to external or internal clients
  • innovation in program, project, or policy development
  • behaviours that epitomise the qualities of an Australian public servant as a leader and a member of a team
  • displaying a genuine commitment to upholding, championing, and leading with integrity in the APS
  • achievement of more efficient processes, improved productivity, or better service delivery.

Nominations must be received no later than 4 April 2025.
