Australians from all walks of life have displayed resilience and perseverance during the past two years as we have faced many challenges on an individual, community and national level.
What is a testament to the Australian spirit is that many among us have dealt with these challenges while continuing outstanding service to our local communities and the nation.
Recognising the contributions of our fellow Australians at this time of year is apt. Australia Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our recent challenges, respect those who put others before themselves and celebrate those whose contributions build our communities and country for the better.
Australian Honours
The Order of Australia honours list to be announced on Australia Day recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement in any field of endeavour or service.
Australians from all walks of life, of all ages, and who have contributed in just about every way imaginable have been recognised through the Order of Australia.
During the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2021, His Excellency Governor-General David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) said the individuals recognised with an Honour ‘collectively speak to who we are as a nation’.
‘It is important that the Order of Australia represents the diversity and strength of Australia’ he said.
‘For this to happen we need to ensure outstanding women, members of our multicultural community and First Nations people are nominated by their peers in the community.’
The Australia Day 2022 Honours List will be announced by the Governor-General on 26 January, and the full list of recipients will be available from the Governor-General’s website.
