Today, the Auditor-General for Australia, Mr Grant Hehir, has notified the Governor-General that he will resign from his position effective from 15 February 2024.
Mr Hehir has served as Auditor-General since 2015.
Mr Hehir’s distinguished career spanned well beyond his role as Auditor-General of Australia having previously served as the Auditor-General of New South Wales and in a number of senior roles in the Victorian State Government, including as Secretary of the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Department of Education and Training. Mr Hehir also worked in senior executive roles at the Commonwealth Department of Finance.
I have had the pleasure of working with Mr Hehir for many years, in both his current and previous roles, and greatly value his advice and expertise.
I would like to thank Mr Hehir for his significant service to the Australian Public Service and for sustained contribution to integrity in public administration.
Glyn Davis
Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
