Chief Operating Officers Committee communique: 29 November 2023

The COO Committee (the Committee) met today at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to discuss the following matters:

APS approach to flexible work 

The Committee discussed current policies on remote work and opportunities to collaborate on implementation of future remote and flexible work arrangements.

Departmental Resilience

The Department of Finance led a discussion on departmental resilience. 

Code of Conduct Review 

The Committee was updated on the progress of the Defence led Code of Conduct Review undertaken in 2022. It was agreed that further work is required to progress Code of Conduct Review recommendations through the Code of Conduct Cross Agency Forum (CCAF).

COO Committee agreed to encourage APS Agencies who have yet to participate in the CCAF Forum discussions to engage in 2024.

Workplace Relations Bargaining Taskforce update 

The Committee noted the update on the progress of APS Bargaining from the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC).

APS Academy operational update

The APSC provided an update on its APS Academy activities and operational model. 

Third Year Report on the Data Profession 

The Committee noted the Data Profession three-year report, achievements to date and forward work program. 

Stewardship as an APS Value 

The Committee received an update from the APSC on the scope and application of Stewardship as an APS Value, to be included in the Australian Public Service Commissioner’s Directions, subject to the passage of the Public Service Amendment Bill.

The next Committee meeting will be scheduled for February 2023.
