The Honourable Nick Bolkus (1950 - 2025)

A State Memorial Service for the Honourable Nick Bolkus will take place at 11.00 am on Thursday 22 January 2026 in the Allan Scott Auditorium, Hawke Building, Adelaide University, 55 North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia.

National Day of Mourning to honour victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack

The Prime Minister has announced a National Day of Mourning on Thursday, 22 January 2026, to honour the victims and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. The theme that the Chabad Community in Bondi has chosen is ‘Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance’.

The Honourable Ron Boswell AO (1940 - 2026)

A State Funeral Service for the Honourable Ron Boswell AO will take place at 10.00 am on Friday 16 January 2026 in the Cathedral of St Stephen, 249 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane, Queensland.

From 1999 to 2003 under the Howard government Mr Boswell held the appointment of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services.

From 1990 to 2007 Mr Boswell was the Leader of the Nationals (formally National Party) in the Senate. 

Mr Boswell retired from politics in 2014.

Bondi Beach attack - National Day of Reflection

The Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister, in conjunction with the Hon Chris Minns MP, Premier of New South Wales, have announced a National Day of Reflection will be held on Sunday, 21 December 2025 to honour the victims of the horrific terrorist attack at Bondi Beach and to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community.

Bondi Beach Incident, 14 December 2025

At the request of the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, flags across Australia are to be flown at half-mast to honour the victims of the tragic events at Bondi Beach, Sydney, on 14 December 2025. 

As a mark of mourning and respect and in accordance with protocol, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast on Monday, 15 December 2025 from all buildings and establishments occupied by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies. The Honourable Graham Richardson AO (1949 – 2025)

A State Funeral Service for the Honourable Graham Richardson AO will take place at 11.00 am on Tuesday, 9 December 2025 at St Mary’s Cathedral, College Street, Sydney, New South Wales.

In 1983, Mr Richardson was elected to Federal Parliament as a senator representing New South Wales. He served as a Cabinet minister in the Hawke and Keating governments. From 1987 to 1994, Mr Richardson held numerous ministerial positions across various portfolios, including as Minister for the Environment and the Arts, before resigning from politics in 1994.

The NSW Premier’s Department advises that a State Funeral for Mr John Laws CBE will take place at 1:30pm on Wednesday, 19 November 2025 at St Andrew’s Cathedral, corner of George and Bathurst Street, Sydney, NSW.

The Funeral will provide an opportunity to celebrate the life of John, a towering figure in Australian radio whose voice resonated across the nation for more than seven decades.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a day of special significance to all Australians, commemorating those who died or suffered while serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

On Remembrance Day, 11 November 2025, Australian Government departments and agencies are asked to observe the protocol to fly the Australian National Flag at half-mast to remember the sacrifice of all those who have died for Australia. Other organisations are welcome to participate.

The Australian National Flag should be flown at the peak from approximately 8:00 am (local time)
