NAIDOC Week 2024

NAIDOC Week is held every year in early July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements, and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that First Nations Australians make to our country and to our society. 

This year, the theme for NAIDOC Week, which will be celebrated from 7 to 14 July 2024 inclusive, is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud Elders’. Further information is available on the NAIDOC website.

The South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet advises that a State Memorial Service for Mr Steele Hall will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, 1 July 2024 at the Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide, South Australia.

Hosted by the Government of South Australia, the service will honour the achievements and contribution of Mr Hall, whose parliamentary career spanned across 33 years in both State and Federal Government.

Aunty Fay Carter OAM (1935 - 2024)

The Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet advises that a State Funeral Service for Aunty Fay Carter OAM will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, 12 June 2024 at Ulumbarra Theatre, Bendigo, Victoria.

Aunty Fay was an advocate who dedicated herself to Victoria’s Aboriginal communities. She played a leadership role in a range of aged care, childcare and health agencies, including founding several key services.

In 2019, she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the Indigenous community of Victoria.

The King’s Birthday

In accordance with flag protocol, on the occasion of His Majesty The King’s Official Birthday, the flying of the Australian National Flag is encouraged.

Flag marshals in all Australian Government departments, authorities and related portfolio agencies are requested to fly or display the Australian National Flag on Monday 10 June 2024, to celebrate The King’s Birthday. Other organisations are encouraged to follow this protocol. Queensland and Western Australia celebrate the birthday on different dates.

Bondi Junction Incident, 13 April 2024

At the request of the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, flags across Australia are to be flown at half-mast to honour the victims of the tragic events at Bondi Junction, Sydney, on 13 April 2024. 

As a mark of mourning and respect and in accordance with protocol, the Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast on Monday, 15 April 2024 from all buildings and establishments occupied by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies.
