Climate change is a global issue. All countries must work together to address it. Australia works with other countries to deliver innovative and practical actions on climate change. We help our partners, particularly in the Indo-Pacific, to reduce emissions and manage climate impacts, while building infrastructure, delivering economic growth and improving the environment. We are a major contributor to international initiatives like the Green Climate Fund and the Global Green Growth Institute.
Summary Report - Australia’s 2030 Emission Reduction Target

The Australian Government will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 26–28 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. Our target is a step up from Australia’s current target to reduce emissions to five per cent below 2000 levels by 2020.

This report was prepared by the UNFCCC Taskforce at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The Taskforce worked in close collaboration with the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Environment, Industry and Science, and the Treasury. We would also like to acknowledge the input from other agencies, including the Departments of Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Agriculture, and CSIRO.
