How to use the Australian honours database

To search, type the relevant surname and/or given name. When searching, use the person's official or legal name at the time of the award.

You can also search using a range of fields or any combinations of these. Results can also be filtered.

The order of results defaults to surname (A to Z) but you can sort them by given name, surname or year.

Download results as a spreadsheet by clicking the download button at the top of the results.

You can customise the downloaded spreadsheet as required.

The database contains around 300,000 entries of honours recipients. New listings are generally added by the Secretariat when honours announcements take place.

Not all awards are automatically available on this database, including:

  • Award recipients who choose not to have their information published.
  • Awards that are no longer current.
  • Defence campaign and long service medals.
  • Some non-gazetted awards. This includes operational and long service awards such as the National Medal, National Emergency Medal and the National Police Service Medal.

Recipients of non-gazetted awards who wish to have their details included should contact the Secretariat via email honours@gg.gov.au or phone 02 6283 3604. They will need to provide consent and proof of identity.

Each entry contains information available at the time of the award announcement.

Award recipients must provide consent to publish. They may choose not to have all their information published.

United Kingdom Honours System entries usually contain less information.

Entries are displayed only after agreement by the award recipient.

Records can only be added if the award recipient requests it, pending availability and approval.

To add a record the award recipient should contact the Secretariat via email honours@gg.gov.au or phone 02 6283 3604.

An award recipient's name and details reflect the information provided at the time of approval or announcement. Media notes are confirmed with award recipients at the time of acceptance.

These entries are a point-in-time record. We do not update entries to reflect name or information changes after publishing.

If there is a typographical error, please contact the Secretariat via email honours@gg.gov.au or phone 02 6283 3604.

Entries are displayed only after agreement by the award recipient.

Records can only be removed if the award recipient requests it or if they no longer have the award.

To request to remove a record the award recipient, or their next of kin should contact the Secretariat via email honours@gg.gov.au or phone 02 6283 3604. They must provide proof of identity.

Each approved award is a separate entry in the database.
