Over 170 Indigenous land and sea management projects are supported across Australia to provide employment and environmental outcomes with wider social, cultural and economic benefits for local communities.

These community-based projects recognise Indigenous people have strong cultural connections to their country and employ around 2,600 Indigenous people to work on country in full-time, part-time and casual jobs.

Protected Area and Indigenous Ranger projects provide training and career pathways for employees. They also provide a framework to engage with stakeholders, develop partnerships and generate income through fee-for-service contracts.

These projects contribute to our priority areas under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) by providing jobs and economic opportunities and engaging school kids and the wider community with their culture and country.

We also provide policy and programme advice to government departments on broader environmental issues.
