Mr Chris Fechner, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Transformation Agency, briefed the Committee on practical implications of AI usage.
National Agreement on Closing the Gap
The Committee discussed measures to support accelerated action to consistently embed the Priority Reforms of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap throughout the APS.
APS-wide Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data
The Committee discussed the Framework for Governance of Indigenous Data which has been designed in partnership with APS agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Framework aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people greater agency over how their data are governed within the APS so government‑held data better reflects their priorities and aspirations.
First Nations Common Operative Picture – Collaboration Circle
An update was provided on the work to progress the Common Operating Picture on First Nations initiatives in the APS, previously considered by the Committee in February 2023. This includes establishing a Collaboration Circle model to ensure the experience of First Nations public servants informs decisions on whole of service initiatives.
APS Surge Reserve update
The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) has transitioned the Australian Public Service (APS) Surge function into business as usual activities, supported by the digital enhancements made to the APS Jobs Surge Portal. The APSC continues to partner with APS agencies to promote initiatives or priorities that require temporary surges in staffing capacity to ensure resources are available to support delivery.
Stewardship as an APS Value
The Commission is consolidating the feedback received from APS and non-APS stakeholders as part of the recent consultation on Stewardship as a new APS Value. Agencies will have further opportunities in the coming months to provide comments on draft guidance products and other communication materials relating to the practical operation of the new APS Value. The Commission extends its appreciation to colleagues across the APS for engaging with this consultation process and providing valuable and considered feedback.
Update on APS Bargaining
The Committee noted the update on the progress of APS Bargaining from the Australian Public Service Commission.
Senior Executive Service Remuneration
The Committee was advised further advice on SES remuneration will be made available following completion of the APS bargaining process.
Next Meetings
