Budget: 2023-24

On Tuesday 9 May 2023, the Treasurer, the Hon Jim Chalmers MP, delivered the 2023–24 Federal Budget.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet will play a key role in delivering Budget initiatives, including the establishment of a new national Net Zero Authority to ensure the workers, industries and communities that have powered Australia for generations can seize the opportunities presented by Australia's net zero transformation.

Gender equality is essential for strengthening our economy, our society and our nation. Measures in the 2023–24 Budget to advance gender equality include reforms to income support payments, the care sector and housing; and initiatives to narrow the gender pay gap, improve women's health outcomes and end violence against women and girls.

Measures in this Budget have had to consider gender equality in the policy development process, with key measures subject to a detailed gender impact assessment.

From the 2023–24 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook, the Government will extend gender responsive budgeting across the budget. Details of measures that will drive gender equality can be found in the 2023–24 Women's Budget Statement.

The 2023–24 Commonwealth Budget papers are available on the Budget 2023–24 website.
